MONICA GOTTARDO
Owner / Director / Educator
Monica Christina Gottardo is the founder and leader of Master Dance Academy. Her new facility opened September of 2016 where she is excited to 'bring and continue bringing together' her knowledge and best experiences as an accomplished dance competitor and instructor. Her outlook and guiding principle for the dance school is based on providing a professional atmosphere, fostering childhood development and nurturing sheer enjoyment of dance. Having danced since the age of three Monica has been committed to the art form for her entire life.

Monica graduated from Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts with honors in 2002 majoring in Dance. She then went on to study Kinesiology and earned her certification as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. Her belief in dance as a comprehensive expression of athleticism, grace and skill, has created a studio that welcomes everyone and allows them to express themselves in a supportive and nurturing environment.

YULIYA SHLYKOVA
Master Stretch Instructor/ Educator
Yuliya is a former Ukrainian rhythmic gymnast and winner of many national and international competitions. She graduated from the National University of Physical Culture and Sport of Ukraine in 2001 with a specialist degree.

She is a ‘N.C.C.P Gymnastics of Ontario’ certified (level 3) coach in rhythmic gymnastics since August 2011. And a certified rhythmic gymnastics “club judge” since December 2013.

Yuliya has been working as a rhythmic gymnastics coach with different levels of gymnasts in the ‘Kalev Estienne RG Club’ of Thornhill and supporting provincial national level gymnasts at ‘Trillium Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy’ of North York.

Emilio Colalillo is a Toronto based professional dancer and choreographer. Colalillo studied classical ballet, modern, jazz and contemporary dance and received his BFA degree in Performance Dance from Ryerson University. As a dancer he has toured the world internationally with Corpus Dance Projects, Creativiva and his own company emiMOTION to Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America.

He is the founder of emiMOTION, a contemporary based dance company that performs internationally as well as here in Toronto. Dance is his passion which led him to explore his creativity and become a choreographer. Colalillo has choreographed 5 full length dance works known for his use of physicality, emotion and avant garde nature.

GEORGE JONES JR.
Master Choreographer/Director of Hip Hop Department -Celebrity Choreographer/Dancer
Mr. George Jones Jr. is Canada's newest evolved star artist that is sending VIBRATIONS throughout the industry and world. George Jones has been blessed to already have toured & perform with such artists as Britney Spears, Boa, Katie Perry, Nicki Minaj, Keri Hilson, and he’s also performed on Vh1 Hip Hop Honors, Vh1 Divas Live, Latin Grammy Awards, America’s Got Talent, and MTV VMA’s. His powerful stage presence and naturally charismatic personality is what sets him apart from others. But his outstanding work ethic and professionalism is what has made him the performer that he is today.George Jones Jr, has worked with some of the biggest icons of this generation. The artist that thrusted his career in to overdrive was Britney Spears, but since then he has worked with JLO, Nicki Minaj, and Usher just to name a few. He has had the honor of touring the world multiple times, appearing on various TV and Award Shows (Ellen, SYTYCD, Dancing with the Stars, American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards), and dancing in several movies (Jack and Jill, Footloose).He continues to work extremely hard to grow to a greater place creatively as a performer and in this chapter of his life a teacher and a proud father to two amazing kids.

Hailing from New York City as a Dancer, George attributes the majority of his training and performance knowledge to Rhapsody the Company, but has a BA in Dance from Marymount Manhattan College as well. He connects his unique quality of movement to understanding the balance between swagger,musicality, attack, and cleanliness, as well as being honored to learn from and work with great Choreographers such as Choreographers as Rhapsody James, Luther Brown, La Jon Dantzler, Flii Stylez, Fatima Robinson, Bobby Newberry, Laurieann Gibson, Jaquel Knight, Tiana Brown, Annibal Morero, Jamal Sims, Don Draico, Chris Dupre’, and Brian Friedmen.

We are excited that George has been as involved as he has been in the future development of Master Dance Academy and its creative direction for the upcoming season. George is not a full time or permanent local faculty member but overseas all the Hip Hop division of our academy with his main focus on our Competitive Companies, and will be teaching classes as a drop in Master Mentor that will be overseeing all operations in the Hip Hop department at MDA. We would like to welcome George Jr to our Family as we are blessed to have him with us as he guides and inspires us all!

SHANE SIMPSON
Actor / Dancer
Dancing around the house at the age of seven, Shane would imitate music videos in front of friends and family. With an obvious desire to dance, Shane’s mother signed him up for lessons and they’ve never looked back. Shane trained at five different studios practicing hip-hop, acrobatics, lyrical, tap, ballet and modern. 

Shane says he would most like to follow in the dance steps of Gene Kelly.

Shane says his biggest accomplishment to date is making SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA’s Top 22. “Making Season 4’s Top 22 has showed me that hard work does pay off and I can do anything I put my mind to,” said Shane.

 Shane says he loves travelling and is extremely into fashion.

CHELSEA GIBBS
Tap & Musical Theatre
Chelsea Gibbs started her dance training at the young age of four. At the age of six she joined a competitive team, where she won numerous special and overall awards for her performances. At age eleven, she was the youngest to audition and become a member of the semi-professional tap company “iTap Youth Company,” based in Hamilton, Ontario, under the direction of, the late, Kimberley Timlock. She also successfully completed her B.A.T.D. Tap and Jazz Exams, R.A.D. Ballet Exams and her P.A.E.C. Tap Exam.

Chelsea has and continues to receive the finest training and is privileged to teach, adjudicate and conduct intensive workshops that allow her to impart her knowledge and creativity to students in the GTA and surrounding areas. With her knowledge, expertise and passion for dance, Chelsea’s goal is to continue to inspire and ignite the passion of dance within her students, as well as living her dream as a performer.

MARQ FRERICHS
Ballet Instructor/Educator
Marq began training at the age of eleven at the George Brown School of Dance. He attended the Professional Program at Canada’s National Ballet School (1982-1985). He then moved to Ulm Germany on offer to work in the Stadt Theatre Ulm under Pierre Wyss. For two seasons he worked with the ballet, opera and theater companies, honing his theatrical skills. Ulm incited his understanding of the diversity of the stage and the vast outreach of dance and the arts.

Upon returning to Toronto he joined Desrosiers Dance Theater as a principal dancer. After 5 years he became the company’s ballet master and fulfilled both positions to complete a decade long role in the company. Desrosiers toured extensively throughout Europe, North America and Asia. As ballet master he taught master classes for Desrosiers, notably at the Aspen Dance Festival and at SUNY Purchase.

Marq proceeded to pursue a career as an independent dancer and teacher working with Cas Public in Montreal and the Chimera Project in Toronto; with Cirque Du Soleil throughout North America and Japan, and partnering with Celine Dion on The Colour of My Love North American tour. He has also performed in various film and television productions. Throughout this, Marq sashayed at the Globe and Mail as the in-house wardrobe stylist where he brought his theatrical flare to the designs on the pages of the weekend Style section.

In 2013 Marq obtained his teaching diploma and Cecchetti Associate from Canada’s National Ballet School, both awarded with Distinction. He is a currently a member of the artistic staff at Canada’s National Ballet School, Guest Teacher at the Quinte School of Ballet and Master Dance Academy is extremely honour and excited to have Mr. Marq Frerichs join of our 2017/2018 Faculty and MDA family.
JORDAN FRANCIS
Hip-Hop Instructor/Director
Jordan showed signs of talent at a very young age . He captured the interest of directors and photographers early in life doing various print jobs and commercials. At the age of ten he landed the leading role of “YoungSimba” in Disneys “The Lion King,” that’s when he really fell in love with performing live.

When he was only eleven years old Jordan went on to writing music, one of his first songs “No Matter” made his hometown radio stations cd compilation volume 1, he also wrote a song for a local rapper that can be heard in the feature film “How She Move”...Trained in all types dance from Ballet, Jazz,Tap,Lyrical,Modern and Hip Hop…Jordan has won various awards and scholarships for his dancing across Canada and the U.S.

Blake McGrath was born on November 21, 1983 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He is known for his work on So You Think You Can Dance Canada (2008), Britney Spears Live from Miami (2004) and 2011 MuchMusic Awards (2011). Blake McGrath has caught the attention of audiences around the world with his memorable and fiery jazz/contemporay performances.

This Canadian-born superstar danced and worked alongside some of the biggest recording icons in the world.

MELLISSA SANDIV
Actress
Melissa Sandvig was born on April 30, 1980 in Torrance, California, USA. She is an actress, known for So You Think You Can Dance (2005), Eidola (2012) and Party Like the Rich and Famous (2012).

Melissa has been dancing for most of her life. She has danced with the Milwaukee Ballet Company, LA Opera, Long Beach Ballet and Helios Dance Theater. A highlight for Melissa was performing “Le Coeur Illumine” at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

ROMINA D'UGO
Actress / Dancer
Gemini Award Nominated actress/dancer Romina D'Ugo is a graduate of the prestigious triple threat Music Theatre Performance program at Sheridan College. Her career began when she graduated early to play a supporting role in the Universal Pictures film How She Move.

She became a household name when she earned a spot as one of the Top 20 dancers on So You Think You Can Dance Canada. She then went on to star opposite Justin Chatwin in the feature film, Funkytown.
