MDA is proud to offer Inclusive Movement classes for children and youth with special needs. This program embraces the fact that each child is unique, and through dance, facilitates the learning and discovery of their strengths while engaging their imagination during the exploration of movement. These classes allow children to grow socially by interacting with other children, their instructor and teaching assistants, while also learning to express themselves in dance.
It is an unfortunate reality that children with disabilities have access to very few leisure opportunities in our community. The programs that are typically offered do not always cater to the entire families’ needs. Through parent interaction and constant feedback, MDA has created a program that has built upon these needs and has co-created a community that families love to be a part of.
MDA is fortunate to have Inclusive Movement instructor, Monica Szabo-Gottardo, as the owner and director of Master Dance Academy she saw the growing need to develop this unique program to give the gift of dance to all children . At MDA we accept all children and people who have the passion , feel the fire and develop an ongoing desire to dance and perform . Monica was the visionary and driving force behind the creation of these specialized programs. Monica is a Kinesiologist (BScK) and Recreation Therapist (BScTR, CTRS) from Toronto. Five years ago Monica created these specialized programs because she is a passionate teacher that recognized there was a glaring barrier for children and adults with disabilities who wished to access the world of dance. Monica is a certified ballet instructor with the Russian Ballet society of Canada she is a member of Dance Educators of America plus the Canadian Chapter of Dance Masters of America as well as a member and graduate of the notable teachers ADAPT program.
